Whenever humans come together for a reason, there is music: weddings, funerals, graduation from college, men marching off to war, stadium sporting events, a night on the town, prayer, a romantic dinner, and mothers rocking their infants to sleep… Music is so intricately interwoven into the fabric of everyday life.
The William Joseph Music Foundation was founded in the year 2002, with the mission to use artistic production to create a platform for the empowerment of children and adolescents from the economically and socially weaker sections of society. It is an off-shoot of The William Joseph International Academy of Performing Art, founded in the year 2002.
The Academy is open to individuals from all age groups who are willing to explore the world of music and discover a little more about themselves. The Academy prides itself of being the first music school across India to having secured the ISO 9001-2009 certification through the Norwegian Accreditation Board and affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music London.
The training and experiences that these children would be exposed to provides for a fuller development of the youth of Bangalore. Being one of the best ways to express our culture, the mission of the Foundation is cemented in the belief that the arts is a potent influence in the construction of the personality of our children and adolescents; an enabler in creating a new vision about the reality and present problems of society; and an educator on the importance of a socially responsible and inspired society
The finer training and development that music, dance & theatre allows, opens a wider spectrum of life in colour. The opportunities are endless and the confidence, motivation, and spirit enhanced within each child make this more than just a mission.
The Foundation has been partnered with:
Throughout the city of Bangalore, a number of outreach programs have been started in slums and orphanages aimed at educating and improving the lives of homeless children who have no access to music or any other forms of art. Currently working with over many children and youth in the city, it is imperative that these children, who are left vulnerable at a crucial point in their lives without the nurturing affection and essential guidance they require, are provided with a channel through which to voice their feelings and express reality.
John Lennon said,
“As I play the game of life
I try to make it better each and every day
And when I struggle in the night
The magic of music seems to light the way”.
The purpose of the Academy and the Foundation, through its efforts of working with a diverse student population regardless of age, caste, creed, sex, or background, is simply to spread a little more of this magic around.
